September 18,1861, he reenlisted for three years in the 11th Independent Battery, NewYork Artillery, and again signed the rolls on January 31, 1864. He participated in the engagements at Rich Mountain. Second Bull , Manassas, Gettysburg and Mine Run. He was taken pris-oner at Manassas. Having been a sailor prior to his enlistment he was transferred, at hisown request, to the navy, April 23, 1864, and while in this branch of theservice at Fort Fisher.
