Friday 1st January 2015 Preston,A 22-year-old man has died after being attacked by his girlfriend’s dog. Police say the man suffered serious injuries at a house in Preston and was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts by paramedics to save him. The incident happened at around on New Year’s Day at a property in Dundonald Street, off New Hall Lane. Ambulance staff called to the house alerted police and the dog was taken away by handlers before being put down by a vet. Officers have so far not identified the breed of dog. Speaking less than three hours after the incident a police spokesman said: “We are still in the very early stages of our investigation. “As yet we are not able to reveal the identity of the man who has died, nor can we say at this stage what sort of dog it was. That will have to be investigated by specialist officers. “We got the call from an ambulance crew who were at the house and said they were dealing with a serious dog bite. “Obviously with a dangerous dog they wanted our assistance to deal with it.” DI Jane Webb said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly died. “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances and my thoughts very much remain with his family who are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time.” At first it was thought the dog was owned by the victim. But police later said they thought it belonged to his girlfriend.
