A forty litre pot containing shredded Ayahuasca vine; Banisteriopsis caapi, and the leaves of a chacruna bush which contains DMT
A forty litre pot containing shredded Ayahuasca vine, or Banisteriopsis caapi, and the leaves of a chacruna bush, or psychotria viridis, is boiled for three days in the jungle. The two plants are cooked together to create an indigenous amazonian plant medicine used in shamanic ceremonies to induce visions and heal patients of various illnesses. The Chacruna bush contains dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, which gives the brew it's hallucinogenic properties. The 'vine of souls' contains monoamine oxidase inhibitors which allow the DMT to be orally active when drunk. Ayahuasqueros use this sacred medicine to treat patients with a holistic approach that encompasses physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. The medicine must be heavily refined to the point where it is a thick, dark brown or red liquid.
