Expertly painted, atmospherically dense portrayal of a German submarine in turbulent sea. On the back a handwritten inscription by the artist reading (tr) "U-57 (v. Georg) offshore of St. Kilda". In old, silver-plated frame, under glass, label of Munich gilder at back. Size of painting circa 42 x 64 cm, size of frame circa 53 x 76 cm. Frame slightly damaged, signs of age.
