A 27-room four-star literary hotel, claiming to be the world’s largest literary hotel, located in a refurbished nineteenth century convent just outside the village wall on Rua D` João d`Ornelas. In 2015 the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated Óbidos as a Literary City. The medieval walled village has 3100 residents and is home to over Half a million books. Óbidos hosts ‘FOLIO’ an annual international literary event. The small village, inhabited since 308 BC, is considered to be one of the most well preserved classic walled settlements in Portugal and is 100km north of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, on the Atlantic Coast.
