We then hear that the pa-tient had long been subject to partialhead-acbes, languor, occasional loss ofmemory, depression of mind, aversionfor amusement, and incapacity for bu-siness : but these friendly warnings ofnature were attributed to some change ofthe w^eather, an easterly wind, electricfluid in the atmosphere, or irregularity inliving, and were consequently deemedtoo trifling to require medical assistance :or the patient might be amused with ner-vous medicines, till the nerves at last be-came insensible to these strongest of sti-muli ; when a few leeches, cupping,blisters, &c. applied in the first instance,might have effectually reduced the mor-bid action in the brain, and preventedthose miserable consequences which thephysician is called in to view with com-passion, and pronounce to be past relief,.
