Before apply-ing adhesive straps,wash and shave the partwhich is to be strapped. To strap the chest: Take either a piece of adhesiveplaster long enough to extend from the far side of thespine to the sternum and wide enough to cover fromjust below the breast to below the margin of the ribs,or several pieces of adhesive plaster about two incheswide stuck together, overlapping each other halftheir width. Prepare the chest by shaving andpowdering. Place one end of the strapping on thespine. Make the patient take a deep breath andthen let out his breath, and, while the lungs arethus comparatively empty, quickly stretch the plas-ter and fix its free end over the far end of the it to the body with the palm of the hand untilall wrinkles are prevent the ends ofthe plaster from curlingput a narrow strip of ad-hesive plaster down boththe back and the front.
