Buxton beat Major Spens, the first other Amateur Champions have been Mr. E. , Mr. Percy Ashworth, who beat both Spens andHedley, and Mr. Philipson. Mr. H. K. Foster held theprize for many years in succession. In 1901 he waschallenged by Mr. Dames-Longworth, but did notcompete. I was fortunate enough to win against thelatter player in 1902.
