Keraflex eye operation. Surgeons carrying out an eye operation to correct corneal ectasia (keratoconus), a condition where the cornea bulges outwards. This innovative system is a non-invasive ophthalmic procedure that flattens the cornea without the need for an incision. The tissue is thermally remodelled, a process known as a microwave thermoplasty (or thermokeratoplasty). The first treatments using this technique took place in 2009. Photographed at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) Bordeaux-Gironde, Bordeaux, France.
