Butley Ferry Suffolk
The foot passenger ferry over the Butley river just west of Orford near the Suffolk coast uses a boat by volunteers from the Alde and Ore Association. It operated on summer weekends and helps walkers and cyclists avoid a lengthy detour around the Butley River. There has been a ferry at this spot almost continuously since the 16th century and the boatman still wears a distinctive 16th century boatman's hat.
