The joinings, whenthis kind is employed, require no boraxing withthe pencil, as described under pallion solder ; theborax being intermixed with the solder flushes withit through the joinings to be united, thus renderingany further application unnecessary. The processto which we are alluding is called hard solder-ing, and cannot be applied to metals of a fusiblenature; neither must it be attempted in the case olgoods bearing the name of plated, which are puttogether with soft or pewter solder, similar to thatused by tinsmiths and gasfitters.
