SAINTS - FRANCIS OF SALES Franciscus Salesius (as he is named in this image) was born in 1567, in Savoy, and eventually educated in the University of Paris. In 1602 he was appointed bishop of Geneva. His work, Introduction to the Devout Life, was written for ordinary folk, and gained an extraordinarily wide readership. He died in Lyons in 1622. In 1923, he was named patron saint of writers.
