Henry St John, Viscount of Bolingbroke, English politician and philosopher, 18th century (c1905). Bolingbroke was one of the intellectual leaders of the 'Country' party whose ideas on liberty and republicanism influenced the American revolution. Print published in Parliament Past and Present by Arnold Wright and Philip Smith, (London, c1905). Original painting by Alexis-Simon Belle which is housed in the National Portrait Gallery.
