The Neolithic Period, or New Stone Age, was a period in the development of human technology, beginning about 10,200 BC and ending between 4,500 and 2,000 BC. What was also once called the polished Stone age was a period characterized by beautiful weapons and instruments made of flint and other kinds of stone. A stone tool is any tool made either partially or entirely out of stone. Most stone tools are associated with prehistoric, particularly Stone Age cultures that have become extinct. Stone has been used to make a wide variety of different tools throughout history, including arrow heads, spearpoints and querns. Stone tools may be made of either ground stone or chipped stone, and a person who creates tools out of the latter is known as a flintknapper.
