During the period covered by these dates the smallest of the two reservoirs was l)eing eni])tied, and the birds were seen feeding on the mud at the edg(> of the water, at times wading into it, and fishing uji what looked to be small snails, at which they nibbled with the tips of their beaks, and often drojij^ed and retrieved. One was seen to swim out a yard or more and wash, fluttering and splashing in dee]) water, returning to repeat its ])erformance close inshore. Black Tern {Hydrochdidon nigra).- An inunature specimen was identified on the small Reservoir, llanishen, on October 9th, 1921. It was flying backwards and forwards over the water, fretpiently mobbed by Black-headed (iuUs {Lams r. ridihundus). Its flight was almost l)at-lik(\ and it constantly ])aused on rajiidly fluttering wings and (lii)i)ed.
