Pyramid of the Moon, Mexico. This structure, an example of a stone step pyramid, was built by the Teotihuacan, a Mesoamerican culture that reached its peak in the first half of the first millennium AD. It is thought that the pyramid was constructed between 250 and 400 AD, and was used to carry out ceremonies for the goddess of water and the Moon. It is 43 metres high, and its base measures 130 by 156 metres. Two smaller structures are seen at left and right.
