The former Empire Theatre, Edmonton, London, England - Laying of the foundation stone in 1908 by Mae Rose Bawn (née Baker 1878 – 1933), who used the stage name "My Fancy". She was an American born dancer who performed in British music halls as "The Queen of Sand Dancers". The Empire Theatre opened on 26th December 1908 as a 1,300 seat music hall theatre and part-time cinema. Designer was Bertie Crewe. It was on this stage that Marie Lloyd collapsed on stage (1922) and died a few days later. It became a cinema in 1927 and closed for refurbishment 1933. Demolished 1970.
